The Mystery of Edwin Drood is Dickens's final novel and was left incomplete when he died on 9th June 1870. The novel was published serially in that year, and was illustrated by the artist Luke Fildes after being introduced to Dickens by the Pre-Raphaelite, John Everett Millais. The illustrations below are taken from the 'Biographical Edition' of Dickens's works (1902-1903) and reproduce Fildes's original illustrations.
